After the fires swept through parts of the Pacific Palisades and Altadena, the immediate focus was on safety, support, and stabilization. It was a raw, emotional time for so many in our community — including some of our clients and close friends.
Now, attention is turning toward what's next. And for many, that means rebuilding. Not just rebuilding quickly, but rebuilding well.
The DLN Charrette: A Framework for Thoughtful Rebuilding
A few weekends ago, I participated in the Design Leadership Network’s Rebuilding Committee, joining a two-day charrette in Los Angeles focused on restoring communities affected by fire. Architects, designers, and landscape architects from all over the world actually came together to work hard over the weekend and after. The result - The Golden California Pattern Book — a design framework that celebrates the architectural DNA of places like the Palisades and Altadena, while introducing practical, resilient strategies for moving forward -it is almost complete and I will share once we have it digitally.
The conversations about rebuilding went far beyond aesthetics. We discussed:
How to bring architectural integrity into new builds
Why material choices matter, both environmentally and emotionally
How designers, architects, and developers can collaborate with clarity
It was a smart, productive, forward-looking weekend — and a reminder that good design is one of the most powerful tools we have for recovery.

Our Approach for Rebuild Los Angeles Projects
22 Interiors has been involved in both new construction and restoration work across LA, including early projects in Altadena and several homes in Malibu. Rebuilding after a fire is never just a design problem — it's also an emotional and logistical one.
Our approach is direct, structured, and collaborative:
We work seamlessly with architects and builders to align vision and execution
We manage aesthetics and function simultaneously — no excess, no chaos
And we’re always looking ahead: what does this home need to feel strong, intentional, and lasting?
Every project is different. But the through-line is clarity.

FAQ: Rebuilding After the California Fires
Q: Do you work with architects on post-fire rebuilds?
Yes — we often collaborate closely from the earliest stages to ensure design cohesion.
Q: What areas do you serve for post-fire projects?
We’re currently consulting on rebuilds in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Malibu, and other nearby communities.
Q: What types of rebuilding projects do you take on?
We take on full interior design scopes for new construction or restorative renovations. This includes architectural collaboration, finish specification, furnishing, and space planning — always with a focus on livability and longevity.
Q: Which areas do you work in?
We’re currently consulting on projects in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Malibu, and other parts of Los Angeles impacted by the recent fires. If the project is aligned, we’re open to working in surrounding areas as well.
Q: Can you work with our existing architect or builder?
Yes. We frequently collaborate with architects and general contractors from the earliest stages to ensure a cohesive vision — aesthetically, functionally, and logistically. Our role is to streamline decision-making and elevate outcomes.
Q: Do you handle project management or just design?
We offer both. Our team manages timelines, procurement, and vendor coordination so that clients can stay focused on the big picture. We're used to high-touch projects that require detailed oversight.
Q: How early in the process should we bring you in?
As early as possible. When we’re involved during the architectural phase, we can help guide spatial planning and material selections in a way that supports both long-term functionality and refined interiors. That said, we can step in mid-process if needed.
Q: Do you offer consultations before committing to a full project?
Yes — for homeowners, developers, or real estate advisors looking for clarity, we offer private consultations to assess scope, vision, and fit. These are structured, strategic sessions designed to bring insight and direction.
